Trienal de Lisboa
The exhibition design for Chronic Condition at the Lisbon Triennale focuses on the use of textile materials combined with the reuse of elements from previous exhibitions, creating contrasting atmospheres across the different rooms.

Sometimes suspended from the ceiling and sometimes simply draped over partitions, the panels are made from Burel®, a traditional Portuguese wool fabric from the Serra da Estrela. The material transforms the exhibition spaces of the Palace while taking advantage of its natural acoustic and thermal properties.

The exhibition adopts the patient’s point of view, expressed through recent photographs and original films, to revisit a selection of drawings and photographs from major European collections within the Future Architecture Platform. Starting from the sick body, it focuses on fluids, connections, and openings—both in bodies and in buildings—explored by architects and artists between 1822 and 1983.

The use of textile makes it possible to remove all unnecessary elements from a standard exhibition setup. The unprinted parts of the Burel® fabric will be returned to the factory. By reusing elements from previous exhibitions, the project also questions how we understand accessibility, through a series of arrangements that invite the body to adapt to different positions of the displayed works.
